VEGAN TATTOOS
There are numerous benefits to using Vegan Tattoo products including:
More reliable and safer on skin ~ Never tested on animals ~ Contains zero animal products ~ Longer lasting ink with much better vibrancy ~ Better for immunity and overall health. These are just a few examples as to why we use them on everyone, not just vegans.
All materials used at the Painted Prince are vegan and plant-based products. This includes inks, stencil paper and solution, soaps, and cleaning products. We understand the importance of cruelty-free products. Not only do we look out for your safety, but we also look out for your skin and your beliefs. A traditional tattoo studio is likely to use products that use animal by-products, anything ranging from inks down to the razors. But all of these things have vegan alternatives, and that’s where we come in. If you’re a dedicated vegan who wants every level of their future tattoos to be animal-friendly then the Painted Prince is the studio for you.
If you are wondering where the animals are hiding in a tattoo, it’s mainly in black ink. Tattoo ink has pigment that is suspended within a carrier solution. The pigment gives the ink its colour and is typically derived from metals or plant matter. But the pigment used to give black ink its colour can (but doesn’t have to) be made from charcoal and soot sourced from burnt animal bones. This is known as ‘bone black’. Black inks may also contain shellac. Coloured inks are usually fine, or at least the pigment is. Although the liquid that the pigment is suspended in, may contain animal by-products. This liquid acts to keep the ink sanitary and evenly mixed, whilst also aiding the ease of application. The liquid will contain purified water, ethyl alcohol, propylene glycol and glycerine and maybe witch hazel. It’s the glycerine that’s bad here. The glycerine used within the ink can be derived either from plant material or obtained from animal fat. Some inks may even contain gelatin from hooves, or insect parts. Glycerine can also be found in green soap. Aftercare products on the other hand, although they may contain glycerine the majority of them contain animal products, such as lanolin (Grease from wool) and beeswax. However the aftercare products made at Brand Nu Yu are 100% vegan, as is everything else we use at the Painted Prince.
We’re not trying to scare you about future tattoos, or make you feel bad about the tattoos you already have. But information is everything, and information should be free.
